It was a short honeymoon. But it shouldn’t surprise anyone. Google announced that it will lay off 4,000 Motorola employees (20% of its workforce) in an effort to return the recently-acquired mobile device manufacturer to profitability. Two-thirds of the lay-offs will be overseas. In addition, approximately one-third of Motorola’s U.S. offices will be closed. Google purchased Motorola for $12.5 billion cash last August. More info.
